Finnish Minister Allow to Run State Online Poker

Posted on January 23, 2008 - Filed Under NEWS

Good News to all Finnish Gamblers. It was reported last week that the Finland’s Ministry of Social Affairs and Health proposed an amendment to the law to run online poker over the entire state. The idea is to create only a national poker site and to give chance to all internet gamblers the chance to regain their losses.

Recenlty, Stefan Wallin, the Minister of Culture and Sports created a state decision in favor of introducing national online poker to Finland. Wallin reported to the YLE News that the present situation in Finland is not enough due to the increasing number of gambling problems and the existing of different gambling web sites managed by foreign tax operators.

The two Finnish gambling companies, Veikkaus and Finnish Slot Machine Association was expecting by Wallin to take in charge for organizing this online gaming in the country for the benefit of the country with exception that all minors are prohibited to play.

This idea of Wallin made some negative feedbacks from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

The amendment on online state poker should not be considered first until the committee submits its proposals to the law on lotteries. The committee is proposing specific measures to block Finnish access to all foreign online gambling sites and planning to call for the increase of age limit in playing this legal gambling.

The two ministers are in conflict, Wallin points out that Sweden had success in putting up its state gambling site, Svenska Spel, in contrast to him, Paasio points out that gambling problem will not be settled down by moving to Sweden.

Both sides consider the chaos experienced by Sweden from the European Union as a result of its limited online gambling policy.

All online gambling services are covered by the trade agreements set up when the EU was formed. The European Union is doing their very best to run online gambling in all states.
