With the popularity boom of 1993 for the all time favourite casino game Poker, one would find it hard to believe that five years down the line the game would have lost its pizzazz, and due to the influx of all the new, and yet growing casinos, one would be shocked to learn that poker has actually, become a tougher game to get to, and its not the lack of players, but the lack of places that offer it to play. After its stint on The Travel Channel, the World Poker Tour is now headed to GSN, the Game Network, as seen on PocketFives last year. The World Poker Tour has transformed the way people watch the worlds most played game. Students to leave studies and learn Poker!

A report confirms the fact that, more than half the number of students in the US have acknowledged to gambling at least once in the past year. The report also states that playing poker for money is also on the rise amongst the students.

The Youth Gambling Research Project made the report, which is an initiative of the Education Department. The report also found that students in the 12 to 17 age group, who gambled every week has dropped from fifteen percent to a mere six percent. It also states that fifty seven percent have gambled at least once this year, as compared to sixty three percent last year. (more…)

Australia - all set to get rid of pokies from pubs and clubs!

Hundreds of thousands of slot machines, commonly known as “pokies” in Australia, will be eased out from all across Australia, under a decade owning to the a radically new federal tax plan, which has been implemented!
The expulsion of pokies would mean that pokies now would be confined to racetracks and casinos, all across Australia. Steve Fielding, Family First Senator is going to introduce the bill of legislation in the parliament next week.

The bill is a smart move, and instead of banning away pokies or poker and slot machines, it introduces an individual tax on each poker and slot machine residing in a pub or a club, rendering the machine profit-less within a span on ten years!
The revenue generated from this “out with pokies” tax, will be transferred in to a trust fund, which will be used to help the community and other family groups or events through the 10 year tenure.

Dutch Minister shelves online casino bill for now

Netherlands Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin recently took a rain check on the scheduled Senate voting for a bill granting an exclusive license to Holland Casino to offer online casino.

The Minister allegedly got hold of reports that the Dutch Senate would be swinging the axe against the bill which would grant temporary but exclusive license to Holland Casino.

It was reported that the Justice Minister immediately postponed the scheduled Senate vote on the abovementioned bill supposedly “amidst concern that the proposal was set to be rejected by the Dutch Senators.” (more…)

Dutch Monopolistic Online Gambling

The Netherlands’ government is pursuing any possible ways to limit online gambling and having more advertising to run gambling in the entire state. It seems that the country is in collision with the European Union.

They are doing their best to follow the footsteps of the United States by increasing their efforts towards online gambling by making it illegal to process bank transactions and other credit card companies from Dutch citizens to any foreign gambling operators. (more…)
