Downtown Miami’s developer of an enormous project is thinking of launching a campaign for amending the constitution of Florida to build a Las Vegas-style casino in the city and also at the famous Fontainebleau Hotel of Miami. They believe that building a new casino in Miami will contribute funds to the schools of Florida through its taxes.
One of the drafts on the proposed casino amendment grants for Class III gambling that consists of slot machines, roulette, keno, blackjack, and craps at any of the following sites:
1. pari-mutuel in Miami Dade or Broward
2. a hotel of Miami beach
3. a place in Miami that is surrounded by North Miami Avenue, Northeast 11th Street, Northeast Sixth Street, and Biscayne Boulevard
Nearly 60 percent of the voters of Florida are required to vote in favor of the amendment to become a law. Roberts Group spokesman Michael Caputo is thinking of opening a casino at the Miami Worldcenter. Caputo has said that nearly $100 million will be spent to launch a campaign for getting 60 percent vote.
However, Caputo does not know whether there will be a partnership on this casino venture between Fontainebleau Hotel and Worldcenter. Manny Diaz, mayor of Miami, has expressed his full support with the opening of a casino in Miami.
Fontainebleau Resorts are presently working on the development of a casino resort worth $2.9 billion on the Las Vegas strip. Soffer along with Glenn Schaeffer, a casino operator of Las Vegas, has got plans to make Fontainebleau a global casino and resort brand.
They want to make this hotel of Miami a place where the guests would not only have space to eat and sleep but also enjoy the game of gambling during their holiday. Marc Sarnoff, Commissioner of Miami has said that although he has never heard about such a project but he is ready to accept casino gambling under few circumstances.
There are two different versions for the casino draft amendment. One of them needs a local referendum for the development of full casino gambling in the city and the other does not require it. It was way back in 2004 that the voters of Florida gave their approval to a proposal of allowing slot machines in Broward and Dade counties.
