The parliament of Taiwan is looking forward to make gambling legalized on offshore islands. They are planning to give a positive move to their plan by the close of 2008. The bill that has been prepared by the lawmakers of Taiwan has been agreed upon to be subjected to formal voting. The good news is that majority are in support of this decision.
Once the bill gets passed, it is going to be great news for the interested gambling players from all around Taiwan. This bill is going to let the creation of casinos on the archipelago of Penghu, which is also known by the name of Pescadores. This place is ideally located in the mid way of Taiwan and mainland China. It lies in the southeast of the Taiwan Strait.
For several years there have been discussions regarding the legalization of gambling in Taiwan. This is mainly due to the reason that Taiwan is one of the favorite places for spending summer vacation and therefore is an attractive spot for the tourists. There are many tourists who are highly fanatic about gambling and casino games.
Legalization of gambling in Taiwan would surely draw more tourists to this place. The year long discussions have found its final culmination after Ma Ying-jeou has been elected as the President in the month of May. He is a pro-casino advocate and is very enthusiastic about legalizing the game in Taiwan.
With a population of nearly 90,000, Penghu has already made two referenda pass by, supporting the legalization of casino and gambling in Taiwan. There have been some protests from the anti-gambling groups. However, the pro-advocates have put forward their arguments in favor of casino games that have highlighted its economic benefits.
The anti-gambling groups that include locals and religious groups are concerned about the increase in the level of crime. With the creation of casinos in Penghu, Taiwan would soon enter into a big competition with some regional gambling regions like Macau. This place, which is a Special Administrative Region of China, has got a total of 28 casinos.
However, the local officials are not looking forward to making Penghu another Macau, where a bid will be made only on three casino licenses.
